roBOt Festival announces
#xlr8, the 8th edition theme
and presents call4roBOt
the international call devoted to visual arts
deadline: June 14th
1.000 euro and other prizes to win
call4roBOt, the international call promoted by roBOt for the international festival dedicated to digital arts and electro music, now in its eighth edition (October 7th-10th 2015, in Bologna, preview: September 24th at Teatro Comunale, in Bologna), is open for registration.
call4roBOt is for all those who wish to present an original and innovative work of art which is relevant to the festival’s contents – which for this year take inspiration from the theory of accelerationism, epitomized with the official hashtag #xlr8. Constantly pursuing a deeper awareness through the ever new story of the World’s data, after the 2014 theme #lostmemories, the 8th edition puts the spotlight on the “Banality of Normality”, on the hyper technologic, increased and fervent present – a present being subordinated to economic logic and made commensurable, fascinating, aestheticized, harmless. Proudly and elegantly mainstream.
roBOt Festival is looking for artists, projects, and examples of accelerationist aesthetic, that is cold, saturated in sharp details and vibrant colors, “at ease with modernity made of abstraction, complexity, globalism and technology.” roBOt encourages its participants to work through the digital and interactive arts with techniques capable of telling and describing the peculiarities of the accelerated life. Artists are asked to recreate hyper realistic stories of contemporary reality, expressing an imaginary overpopulated by simulacra – logos, icons, hashtags and apps – that are brazenly prone to the clichés of corporate giants. So to say, hyper consumerism and sci-fi surreal scenarios – yet relevant to the everyday dimension – spiced with proliferating artificial intelligence, smart cities, global surveillance disclosures and cyber warfare, political inertia, cyber currencies, big data and QR codes, ephemeral and omnipresent corporations, scientific discoveries and provoking philosophical discussions, algorithmic presages by interpreting metadata, portraits of evolved lifestyles, and finally, detailed mappings of the digital technology era’s fetishes.
call4roBOt 2015 offers 3 prizes:
- Participation to roBOt08, presenting the selected work of art in the galleries/spaces that will take part in the the festival or at Palazzo Re Enzo, its main location.
- A prize of € 1000 for the most deserving project;
- the publication of the selected work of art on all the official communication and in roBOt08’s catalog. Some of the works displayed during the festival will also be presented within the events produced by Shape and its international partners in the AV node and IMQF networks, of which roBOt is a founding member.
